Gawler 15 is an exciting venture that evolved from the
community need to have a locally based hospitality training and
educational options for young people who are 16-18 years old, but are
not engaged in learning or earning.
provides a local 'hands on' training option which is closely
linked to Gawler High School, the Murray institute of TAFE, Gawler
Council Youth Services, local businesses, SAPOL and job network members.
Our school is
supporting young people from the local area and giving them a career
pathway. When the new kitchen is not being used for these courses, our
own staff and students use it for activities like afternoon tea for
children and parents on the popular farm visits.
Early in Term
4 2005, the new training kitchen at our Gawler House Enterprise Centre was
officially opened and the Community Gawler 15 Program was launched.
It was called
Gawler 15 because it provides a chance for groups of 15 young people (at
school or unemployed) to complete a Nationally Accredited Course
in Hospitality (Kitchen Operations)
funds for the new kitchen required plenty of teamwork between Gawler
High, the Gawler Council and TAFE. The first group of 15 started their
course in August 2005 and successfully completed it in November 2005.
group began in July 2006. For further information download an
